A Harrop farmer sold poisonous mushrooms she thought were chanterelles. Dan Nelson of the 14,000-member Kootenay Mushroom Forum (Nelson) said the group is for ID help, not selling, and that one cue (smell) isn’t enough—you need gills, stem, underside, and more. The forum is adding photo rules, poison-control info, and symptoms. Foraging in the Kootenays has grown (Kaslo festival, more walks). Check the group and Tyson Ehlers’ book for resources

**Asian Roots** (CJLY 93.5 FM, host Zeng Wang) featured Dan Nelson of Avatar Computer in Nelson.Dan’s Asia connection is through his partner Laura, who lived and taught in Taiwan for 13+ years. They briefly discussed shared humanity and the lack of anti-Asian harassment he saw locally during COVID.The main topic was the **Allison Inquiry**: MP Dean Allison’s recent parliamentary forum for Canadians reporting COVID vaccine injuries. About 59,000 official reports existed; ~1,400 applied to speak and ~30 testified. Many said the deepest harm was being dismissed, not the physical injury itself. Doctors often hesitated to record cases.Dan built a public “Abandoned Archive” on avatarcomputertech.com to distill the testimonies and official record so people can review them. He described himself as skeptical of institutions, not anti-vaccine, and focused on being heard, learning from mistakes, and healing rather than blame. His closing message: lead with compassion and assume the good in people.

Making sense of The Allison Inquiries
I recently sat down with John Craig for his Real Rover podcast in my Avatar shop here in Nelson. What began as a tour of repurposed laptops and a small server cluster opened into a much wider conversation — about how the technology we use shapes the consciousness we develop, why our communities deserve to own the ground their digital lives stand on, and why John is building something called SOS City — Sovereign Open Spaces — out of Iceland and Japan to give people there what the Kootenays are already building here.

Authenticity Inc. — The Business of Being Real — with hosts Kate and Nicole, guest Dan Nelson. Live on CJLY / Kootenay Co-op Radio (93.5 Nelson, plus Castlegar / Slocan / East Shore frequencies). Evening studio show, about an hour, with two song breaks
I sat down on Authenticity Inc. at Kootenay Co-op Radio in late 2020 to talk about conspiracy theories without turning them into a fight: how I grew up questioning the official story, why the label itself is often used to shut people down, how trauma and media bubbles can blow a theory out of proportion, and why a theory that leaves you in fear has already missed the point. I wanted a safe space to stay curious, hold both sides with some compassion, and treat the shadow as something you look at so it stops running you.
